When we talk about the saturation of a color, we refer to the intensity of a specific hue, based on the purity of the color, in which it is determined by its luminous intensity. A highly saturated color shows very vivid and intense hues, while a slightly saturated color appears more faded. If we fully desaturate a color, it would turn gray . So it is a good technique used in the cinema, to change the hue of the moment: with the same color palette change the mood. In the movie Up we can see an example of this.

Following a palette that is representative throughout the film, the colors are vibrant in the good moments are very saturated. colors-up But when bad news happens, the saturation decreases until we get closer background remove service to darker colors to get that regret to be transmitted to us. low-saturated-colors-movie-up The range of colors have not changed, they are always the same, but they no longer transmit the same. Also in Up we can find a game with a very representative range of colors . We have two identical scenes in which the protagonists climb a hill. The difference is that the range of colors is different, opposite.

In the first case, greens and blues prevail , very vibrant colors that transmit energy, cold colors that speak of youth and in which these sensations are accentuated with a great saturation. bright-colors-up On the other hand we see the same scene, but the colors are now warmer and appear less saturated. How could it be otherwise, in the first case fertility and youth are being represented, reminding us of spring, while in the second case, we are closer to autumn, old age, sunset.
