Paris has declared war on SUVs : it wants to drive them out of the city and it is very serious. Parisians will decide on February 4 in a referendum whether to apply more expensive rates to park an SUV in the city. In reality it is a specific price for heavier cars , but for SUV and off-road purposes. And it is proposed that it be triple the current price : no less than up to 225 euros . Although this battle against larger cars is a bit lukewarm due to exceptions: it will not affect residents, workers... Up to 1,000 kg difference: the brutal and dangerous excess weight that you gain when buying an electric car instead of its gasoline version IN MOTORPASIÓN Up to 1,000 kg difference: the brutal and dangerous excess weight that you gain when buying an electric car instead of its gasoline version It doesn't matter if they are electric or gasoline: Paris wants more parking space This is how Paris is going to throw SUVs and off-road vehicles out of the city "The vote on February 4, 2024 is a message for car manufacturers.

Their lucrative career based on selling larger, more fuel-efficient and more expensive vehicles threatens the ecological transition." This is how forceful the Paris City Council is in the statement that includes the already defined measure. Although it also applies to eco-friendly cars: hybrids, PHEVs and pure electric cars are included. Thus the cut is based on Cell Phone Number List weight, which translates into seeking to reduce the largest and heaviest cars: SUVs and all-terrain vehicles . The reason for the measure is that these cars are taking up too much public land, although pollution or safety are also pointed out. Thus, the new rates will affect: Gasoline and diesel cars, hybrids and PHEVs of 1.6 tons or more . Electric cars of 2 tons or more . Fewer cars, but also more space for residents to park.

Regulated parking on the streets of Paris will operate as before: by zones corresponding to the districts of Paris, which are a total of 20 . The most central ones (from 1 to 11) will continue to be more expensive and the peripheral ones cheaper, despite the fact that, for example, 16 is one of the rich neighborhoods of the French capital. Depending on the area, the minimum rate will be 12 euros or 18 euros (1 hour) for the heaviest cars and the most expensive will be 150 euros or 225 euros (6 hours). Of course, those who will have to pay these new rates will be the non-Parisian residents of said area . Workers who live in a different area (or outside the city) but who have their office or work center in said area, as well as service workers: taxi drivers, VTC, electricians, plumbers, bricklayers, etc. are also exempt. The bulk of exceptions are closed by people with reduced mobility who have the corresponding parking card. Although the main objective is to reduce the number of large cars in Paris, which is necessary given its available space (narrow streets, bike lanes, etc.), it is also apparent that the aim is to encourage Parisians to park near their homes.
